The power in Morgan Hill was cut off on 9th October in anticipation of high winds. More than 800,000 customers were left without power for a few days until the weather passed and PG&E put the power back on. An outage map on the PG&E website showed that most people in Morgan Hill had their power back on by October 11.
A press release from PG&E on 11th October stated:
“Pacific Gas and Electric Company reported Friday at 12 pm that approximately 543,000 customers impacted by PSPS have had their power restored, including full restoration in Humboldt, Siskiyou, Trinity and Yolo Counties. Less than 195,000 customers remain without power.”
The Public Safety Power Shutoff was called off when safety patrols confirmed that there was no lasting damage to the power infrastructure. More than 6,300 people were on the ground checking the lines and 44 helicopters were used to scan the area from Greater Bay Area to Northern Sierra, to Kern County. There were only 23 reports of damage to the power systems.
Morgan Hill’s City Council responded to the PSPS by issuing a proclamation of a local emergency. Any notices sent out are likely to have featured the City Council’s official Letterheads. A temporary curfew was also in effect in the neighborhoods affected by the outage.
