Some residents are protesting against a large industrial development which was proposed for the northern edges of Morgan Hill.
The opposition to the new development is such that residents formed the Morgan Hill Responsible Growth Coalition which was created specifically to oppose the Morgan Hill Technology Park Project.
Trammel Crow is a developer from Dallas who bought the 61-acre property in northern Morgan Hill where the tech park will be. He then submitted a proposal to have the city rezone most of the plot so that it can be used for industrial purposes. The aim of the project is to build one million square feet of commercial and industrial space as well as approximately 300 homes. An environmental impact study is still being conducted and it is expected to be ready for public scrutiny towards the end of the year.
City officials responded to the public concerns by hosting a community meetup. Members of the public were given the opportunity to explain their worries and seek clarification on unfounded rumors that were going around. One of the major concerns brought up was the manner in which the developers notified the public about their plans. The developers are required by law to let people living within 600 feet of the project know about the planned developments, with poster printing and flyer printing common means of doing this.
The Morgan Hill Responsible Growth Coalition feels that the 600-foot reach is not sufficient, and that a proposed development this large will impact every person in Morgan Hill and South County.
