Paddle training center comes to Dana Point

A new recreational watersport is being embraced by the Dana Point Yacht Club (DPYC), which has announced that it is collaborating with the World Paddle Association to create the DPYC Paddle Training Center.

Although a degree of friction often exists between boaters and paddlers as they attempt to navigate within a harbor, particularly one as restrictive as Dana Point Harbor, the yacht club wishes to cultivate the sport. Already viewed as the world’s fastest-growing water sport, DPYC is determined to not be left behind as paddling's popularity grows.

Stand-up paddling programs (SUP) will be the focus of the yacht club’s training center, although other Forms of the sport will also be covered such as surf ski, outrigger, and paddle boarding. Points covered in training will include stroke efficiency, strategy, water dynamics, and the proper techniques to lower the chance of injury and stay safe while around the harbor.

The initial junior and adult programs kicked off in June, following an open house featuring free clinics and an introduction of the coaches and instructors. No doubt poster printing services or flyer printers will now be engaged to inform the public when additional camps are scheduled.

The Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter holidays have already been mentioned as possibilities for new training classes, and joining a paddle program is not dependent on having a Yacht Club membership.
