In today’s disposable society, people often choose to throw items away once they are broken rather than take the time to repair them. An upcoming Burbank workshop wants to change that.
The Burbank Recycle Center has gathered a group of area tinkerers, and they will be sharing their knowledge with those who would like to learn the skills needed to make small repairs. While there is no way to guarantee an item can be fixed, trying can be a fun, rewarding, and empowering experience.
During the Santa Fixit Clinic, members of the republic can bring in items they would like to repair, and the “Santa’s Helpers” who will be on hand will offer guidance and other advice. Those who plan on attending have been asked to fill out an online registration form and indicate what they would like to fix, as well as other details.
By showing people how it can often be easy to repair a broken item, this sort of event can do a good turn both for the planet and their pocketbook. Creating manuals that include common “fixes” are often useful for this sort of event, and Print shops can help.
The Santa Fixit Clinic will be transforming old into almost new on December 8. The location for the activity will be 500 S.Flower Street.
