What's Happening in Warrington, England…

Warrington woman named 'Jampion' thanks to WI leaflet

A woman from Stockton Heath near Warrington has been awarded with the prestigious title of 'world Jampion' after entering a jam making competition she found out about on a leaflet.

Marjorie Paulson began making jam in 2011 and despite her lack of experience, she proceeded to sweep the floor clean in a recent international competition known as the World Jampionships. Marjorie's creations saw her beat off stiff competition from France, Germany and the U.S. to be crowned the winner.

Marjorie spoke about her success in an interview with the Warrington Guardian, saying:

"I bought some jars and they came with a leaflet about a WI competition so I entered a mango, passion fruit and lime jam and couldn’t believe it when I won after only making jam for a month. That’s when I started looking for more competitions and entered the Jampionships."

Organisations like the Women's Institute are known to work closely with local print shops to produce advertising leaflets for competitions like this. Poster printing in Warrington is a cost-effective method of boosting interest and entry numbers.

Marjorie now wants to take jam making to the next level; she said:

"I would love to open a preserve school to teach others and there are so many baking programmes on TV, I’d like to see a preserve programme next.”

Those in Warrington who wish to try their hand at making jam are encouraged to visit the World Jampionships’ official website for tips.
