What's Happening in Warrington, England…

Warrington novelist sells 45,000 books in a day

A Birchwood crime writer experienced a huge sales boost for his book following an online promotion.

Conrad Jones decided to make his novel, The Child Taker, available as an ebook on a US website at a discounted price, along with the book’s follow up, entitled Criminally Insane.

The 48-year-old was astonished at the response.

According to the Warrington Guardian, he said the sale “went massive” and confirmed that it was the first time he had gone through with a promotional offer.

Jones added that while early predictions placed sales figures between 3,000 and 12,000, the deal led to 45,000 downloads in the space of 24 hours.

By the time the offer ended, the deal had garnered a total of 2,700 downloads in the UK and 53,200 in the US.

As of November 29, the book stood at fourth place in the US crime drama download chart and second in the UK equivalent.

For writers, sales success can encourage even more people to purchase a copy of a book, and such news can be effectively advertised using services such as poster printing, in Warrington and elsewhere in the North West.

The recent surge brings the novelist’s total sales, across the 12 books he has penned so far, to more than 350,000.

Now, Jones’ stories could reach an even bigger audience; the writer is in talks with a group in New Jersey regarding the film rights of The Child Taker, with further plans for him to visit the US in 2014 to discuss the screenplay.
