Warrington disabled group recognises residents' hard work

An awards event was held by the Warrington Disability Partnership recently to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The local council supported the ceremony which honoured carers, businesses and disabled individuals for their contributions to the community.

Dave Thompson MBE, partnership chairperson, said:

“The enthusiasm and energy we have created has resulted in supporting tens of thousands of disabled people and their families. It has also inspired organisations from across the UK and the world to follow our example by running local Disability Awareness Days in India, Gibraltar and Cameroon.”

Prizes were distributed in a variety of categories. The winners included an eating establishment and a representative of the local media. All of those who were honoured had helped disabled people in terms of employment, support or services.

The Partnership held its Annual General Meeting on the same evening and thus it was an ideal time to thank volunteers for their work. The providers of funds, trustees and staff were also recognised.

This year’s event was held in a neighbourhood hub in Orford which is to the north of Warrington’s town centre. Poster printing in Warrington could be used during 2014 to generate interest for next year’s event.

December 2013 marked the 22nd anniversary of the Partnership and it was the 19th time that the awards had been distributed. The organisers of the event reported that they were satisfied with the level of attendance and they have already set a firm date for the awards ceremony to be held in December 2014.
