Town centre in Warrington to get multi-million pound facelift

Plans worth £52m for the redevelopment of the town centre in Warrington are now set to go ahead, having been approved by the local council.

The plans will include demolishing the town’s existing market, with a modern one replacing it as part of a retail, leisure and restaurant complex.

A civic area and multiplex cinema will also be built, alongside a new square for the public, with the overall Bridge Street Quarter revamp set to extend from this location to Time Square.

The leader of the council, Terry O’Neill, stated that the centre of Warrington was on the verge of a real renaissance that would restore it to former glories.

It will certainly be a boost for the local economy, with approximately 400 jobs likely to be created. Furthermore, once the new shops open, catalogue printing in Warrington will be needed to show off products to the area’s consumers. O’Neill explained:

“This is a momentous decision for Warrington and the future of our town centre.

“The Bridge Street Quarter will transform the centre and will be supported by three other complementary projects: Stadium Quarter, Cabinet Works and Southern Gateway being led by Wire Regeneration.”

Building work is expected to begin at the start of next year, and is scheduled for completion by 2019, although the £10 million replacement market should open a year earlier.
