What's Happening in Warrington, England…

Scouts could get to keep their Warrington hut

The 10th Warrington (St Mary’s) Scout Group has won the right to purchase the land on which its hut is based.

The Scouts have been located in the same spot since 1960. As a result, members were surprised last year when it was announced that the site was on the market. However, permission has now been granted by the Parochial Church Council (PCC) for the club to buy some land. Fundraising will be needed to make this happen and leaflet printing from printing services in Warrington could be used to promote the cause.

Kevin Foote, the secretary of the club, told the Warrington Guardian:

“We are absolutely thrilled – I feel the buyers are on our side a bit but it is early days yet. It’s a major step forward for us. We are not quite sure how much money we will need to raise and we still need to agree where the boundaries will be.”

It has been estimated that the Scouts will have to generate over £10,000 to realise their ambition. Approximately 80 group members will be urged to participate in the fundraising drive. A fundraising badge could prove to be an incentive to take part.

Land including the space next to the hut can be bought to secure the place for the regular Scout meetings. The Felicia Burns School of Dance currently uses the hut, and it may continue to do so if the Scouts achieve their goal.
