A man who overcame a cardiac has pledged to bring in donations for a national charity through running.
Mark Harrison survived a heart attack a few years ago, and will be hitting the road throughout 2014. Mr Harrison was not overweight when he suffered from his heart condition, but he did have a sedentary lifestyle.
Mr Harrison said:
“I'm not strong enough yet to run a full marathon but I can do five and 10 miles. I really enjoy running – I've got the running bug. I never used to do any exercise at all, but when I was in rehab from my heart attack I started doing small runs and found that I could do it.”
Mr Harrison is planning to participate in several regional running competitions. He has pencilled in 10k runs at Stoke on Trent, Clayton and Newcastle-under-Lyme. The organisers of these events could well use printing companies in Stoke on Trent to produce advertising material. In addition, Mr Harrison intends to complete two half-marathons, including one at Conway.
When Mr Harrison had his heart attack, he was quietly reading at home. He experienced chest pains, but initially believed that he was suffering from a bout of indigestion. Not wishing to cause any trouble, Mr Harrison attempted to ignore the pain. Fortunately, his girlfriend Kate called for an ambulance and it was this prompt action that led to his survival.
On arrival at hospital, Mr Harrison required several operations to get his blood flowing properly again. He was obliged to take half a year off work until he was better. His Plans now include marriage.
