Childrens theatre steams into Stoke-on-Trent

A stage adaptation of a much-loved children’s story will grace the stage of a Stoke-on-Trent theatre in spring.

Families seeking theatrical fun in Stoke-on-Trent can enjoy a special springtime treat this year. An amateur stage production that brings the pages of E Nesbit’s “The Railway Children” to a theatre setting is headed for the city, that has been adapted by playwright Mike Kenny.

Theatres presenting plays, pantomimes and musicals sometimes enlist the aid of professional Print shops to craft plush programmes they can pass to members of the public who book tickets.

Performed by the local Stoke Rep Players, the production promises “steam and sooty surprises”. The timeless tale takes audiences on a rural adventure with three siblings who make a new home by a railway line and learn about the magic of steam and the importance of friendship.

Designed to appeal to audience members of all age groups, the play is inspired by the essence of the original story and refreshes it with theatricality and new energy. The upcoming amateur production is presented with approval of Nick Hern Books.

The Railway Children will now be performed live on stage at Stoke Rep Theatre from Tuesday, April 14 to Saturday, April 18. The venue is just a short walk from Stoke-on-Trent railway station on Leek Road and is based near Staffordshire University.
