A renowned venue in Stoke-on-Trent will be hosting a production combining Christmas music with Irish songs from across the years.
Stoke-on-Trent residents looking for a musical event to celebrate the festive season can attend an upcoming event at Victoria Hall in December.
Dubbed “Fairytale of New York”, the production features talented singers, dancers and musicians, along with a songbook packed full of Christmas song and Celtic classics.
Venues hosting festive events often hire poster printing services to create advertisements featuring seasonal imagery like snowflakes, bells and holly.
The show coming to Stoke is brought to audiences by the production team behind “Seven Drunken Nights - The Story of The Dubliners”. Christmas songs included on the night will be “Silent Night”, “Driving Home for Christmas” “Oh Holy Night”, “White Christmas”, and “The Fairytale of New York”, the track from which the show takes its name.
The much-loved Christmas song was penned by Shane MacGowan of The Pogues, who sang it in a duet with Kirsty MacColl. According to MacGowan, the song was written for a bet against the band’s manager at the time, music legend Elvis Costello, who said they could never write a Christmas hit.
The Fairytale of New York show will be performed at Victoria Hall on Thursday, December 14. The hall is based on Bagnall Street in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, and the show will begin at 7.30pm.
