The survey in question was conducted by Rightmove, the internet-based property firm, and saw Stoke-on-Trent placed 11th – putting it above the likes of Chelsea and Kensington.
A quarter of a million people from around the UK were interviewed for it, with the questions dealing with matters like neighbourliness, safety, wellbeing and town pride.
It saw the city score high marks in most of these areas, leaving many nearby rivals – such as Wolverhampton, Derby and Crewe – in its wake.
Rita Dale, the Deputy Lord Mayor, told the Stoke Sentinel that it was marvellous news for the city. She said:
“We have a wonderful city with some of the loveliest people anywhere in the country. I’m really not surprised that we have done so well in this survey, you couldn’t ask for nicer, more genuine people than the residents of Stoke-on-Trent.”
The council will be able to make use of places that provide banner printing in Stoke-on-Trent, if they want to promote this result around the city.
The overall winner of the survey was Harrogate in North Yorkshire, with Ipswich, Shrewsbury, Chester, York, Blackpool and Inverness among the other top 10 places.
