The council has obtained a grant worth £500,000 from central government. Some of the resources will be allocated to a consultation exercise, with other funds set to be used to facilitate the activity of regeneration experts. Print shops within Stoke-on-Tent could receive more work as a result of the policy.
Councillor Randy Conteh has authority over the areas of communities and housing, and told the Stoke Sentinel:
“This additional money is fantastic news as it helps us to deliver our 'stronger together' priority of driving up housing standards. We want people at all stages of life to be able to find and live in a quality home they want, at a price they can afford.”
Councillor Conteh added that demand for housing within Stoke-on-Trent is on the increase. He also endorsed an assistance scheme for first-time buyers.
The Department for Communities and Local Government is providing the money for the local regeneration drive. Secretary of State Sajid Javid has explained that the housing market is a matter of concern.
