Report highlights job creation in Stoke-on-Trent

A recent report has shown that employment in the Stoke-on-Trent area has been increasing rapidly.

UK Powerhouse research indicated that Stoke-on-Trent has enjoyed a summer of impressive job creation. Milton Keynes and Glasgow did even better, but many urban areas lacked the dynamism of Stoke-on-Trent. The Potteries region has done well in terms of job growth during the whole of the last year. Expanding businesses may mean more work for Print shops in Stoke-on-Trent going forward.

The value of the city’s economy has been estimated at almost £5 million. Manufacturing, in sectors like porcelain, ceramics and glassware, has reportedly been on the up. The city council is in a positive mood as a result of the emergent statistics.

Janine Bridges, a councillor with a role in the development of the local economy, told the Stoke Sentinel:

“These findings, although not recognised officially by the Government, are encouraging and point to further Signs of our city's resurgence. Our vision includes a commitment to help businesses prosper, driving investment across towns and communities.”

Councillor Bridges pointed out that an enterprise zone has recently been created. Even though the formal launch has only just taken place, she confirmed that about 1,000 jobs have been secured within the space. There is the potential there for many more posts to be created in the future and local people should be able to exploit some of the opportunities available.
