National Oatcake Day gives Staffordshire residents a taste for fun

The people of Staffordshire recently celebrated the region’s signature dish as National Oatcake Day fever swept through the county.

The festivities took place on August 9 and people really got into the spirit of things this year, with celebrations, stalls and concerts happening across the region in a display of local pride.

Congleton, in the north of the county, played host to a wide range of events, including an oatcake toss challenge, which saw the victor flipping an oatcake 70 times in one minute, breaking last year's record of 58.

Congleton Town Centre’s marketing manager, Jackie MacArthur, spoke about the reasons behind the celebrations, saying:

"The dish is really popular in Congleton even though oatcakes originated in Stoke on Trent. The reason why people like them is because they are a very versatile food and you can put virtually anything in them."

Jo Money, who helped to arrange the event, said:

"Everyone has had a lot of fun and they have all been really enthusiastic about the event. Oatcakes are a very traditional food and it's something we can be proud of."

Festivities to mark occasions like National Oatcake Day are often promoted using poster or flyer printing. Stoke on Trent is home to reputable printing companies which offer these services and are well-versed in promoting events.

The reaction to the celebrations was extremely positive, with many people attending regional events. Several local businesses also got involved to sell the delicacy.
