The future of the library was threatened and as a result, the council appealed for volunteers to step up to the plate. St Mary’s came forward to fill the gap, but more people from the community are still required to help deliver the service. Poster printing in Stoke-on-Trent can be used for volunteer recruitment.
Knutton Library is located in Newcastle-under-Lyme on Church Lane, in close proximity to the primary school. Gill Heath, who takes responsibility for library provision at the relevant county council, told the Stoke Sentinel:
“Volunteers play a vital role in all our libraries - helping and advising customers, organising Books and resources and helping out with reading groups and other activities. It's such a fun place to volunteer at, with a huge variety of duties to help with.”
Councillor Heath explained that volunteers can get involved with IT. She underlined that many individuals still need to be shown how to enhance their digital skills.
Staffordshire County Council intends to hand the library over to volunteers during March next year. Ideally, one paid librarian should be supported by eight volunteers. A weekly rota will have to be adhered to for the project to be successful. The hope is that a hub for the local community can be created.Get a Free Quote for Books
