Hanley leisure complex to be renamed

A new leisure development on the site of the intu Potteries retail centre in Hanley will be given a new title prior to its launch.

Four names are now in the running for the £15m complex.

Hanley’s shoppers were given the challenge of coming up with some suitable new titles for the centre, which will comprise several restaurants as well as a multiplex cinema.

The list was cut down to the four most popular – The Hive, The Venue, Kaleidoscope and The Place.

The final entries went to the public vote but the ballot closed on Monday. Now, managers at the centre are reportedly working through the votes and will soon reveal the winning name.

According to The Sentinel, Sandrine Rutter, who works at the centre as a marketing manager, said customers submitted hundreds of suggestions for the complex’s new name.

Building developers often turn to professional brochure printers, in Stoke on Trent and elsewhere, to publicise details of the amenities expected to be available at new sites, typically including artists’ impressions of what facilities will look like.

Set to open at some point in 2015, around 100 new jobs are expected to be created while the extension is built, with an additional 185 once the cinema and restaurants open.

Intu, the company which owns the Hanley centre, recently reported positive trading figures since June. According to Insider Media, the company said that while occupancy rates remain unchanged – at 95% nationwide – the firm saw 48 new shops open in centres across the UK.
