Emran Shourab only started uploading to his channel MixtapeMasters in February, but his videos- a combination of Bollywood music and Koran drama- have earned him an army of admirers. Just one of the 17-year-old's videos has amassed over 29m views.
Darnell-based Emran was presented a Silver Creator Award, awarded to those with more than 100,000 subscribers. By the time he received it from the postman, that number was close to reaching 400,000.
Emran is now hopeful of achieving one million followers in 2018, at which point, he would be due a Gold Creator Award. He said:
"It's just a hobby but it's great to have so many subscribers, and the amazing feedback I get from them means a lot to me. Most of my followers are in Asia but my friends and teachers here are really supportive and watch all my videos, even if they don't always understand them."
Emran's story serves as a great example of how an individual can rise to fame on the world wide web.
