A major snooker event is coming up in Sheffield, and the Plans are for it to be among the first British sporting events to see spectators return.
The Crucible in Sheffield will be hosting the 45th World Championship, but the performing arts theatre based on Norfolk Street is now taking part in a pilot scheme devised by the UK government.
Set to launch next month, the new initiative is designed to make the first move to enabling spectators to return to UK venues. After a year of mostly empty stadiums and event spaces in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, major sports competitions will now be watched by members of the public. This includes not only the Snooker World Championship but the FA Cup final on May 15, to be held at Wembley Stadium in London.
Promoters of major sporting events can sometimes use professional printing services to create largescale displays that advertise upcoming matches and games live or on television.
The dedicated website for the World Snooker Tour, commented that the science-led and government-backed Events Research Programme has been developed to examine ways live venues will be able to safely welcome the public to watch events in greater numbers.
Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre can accommodate 980 snooker fans, but last year was only able to host about one third of this number for the final weekend and first day of the 2021 tournament between July and August, where Ronnie O'Sullivan claimed another world title.
