More Heritage Open Days are set to transform Sheffield this September.
The heritage events will take place in city in a few weeks and will boost the cultural offer of the city. Brochure printing in Sheffield can boost cultural tourism. The preparations for the open day mean that people will be able to attend over 100 individual events which will include a wide range of tours and talks.
As it is a century since some British women got the vote for the first time, the concept of extraordinary women is being used as an organising principle. The endeavours of the suffragettes are being commemorated by the Sheffield Civic Trust. Volunteers are doing their bit to celebrate the lives of other dynamic people who sometimes get left out of the mainstream historical narrative.
Mary Anne Rawson was a persistent campaigner against slavery who will be mentioned during the course of the festival. The activities of Ethel Haythornthwaite, a widow who fought to conserve the local countryside, will be explored. Annie Bindon Carter is an artist who shall get some deserved recognition, while Celtic leader Cartimandua is going to be discussed.
Meanwhile, the past and present of local technology is to be showcased. The Wortley Top Forge is one of the old industrial sites that will be opened to the public. Digital creativity will be displayed at the Electric Works.
