The Festival of Debate has been scheduled to take place during the month of April. Flyer printing in Sheffield may be used to promote events. Bake-Off contestant Ruby Tandoh and famous economist Yanis Varoufakis will attend the festival this year. Joe Kriss, festival organiser, told The Star:
“Sheffield has a long history of being a city of debate and new debates. Sheffield’s original newspapers, the Sheffield Iris and The Sheffield Register, were a hotbed of political activism and radical historical figures such as John Ruskin and Edward Carpenter found many a sympathetic ear across the city.”
The first festival of this type was put together to boost engagement with the democratic process. Community groups have got behind the concept and the result has been the development of a cultural spectacle.
The festival might be significantly bigger in 2018 than it has been before. This is because there should be more than 70 separate events across the city. Thousands of tickets have been made available to the public. A performance of a musical about President Trump might involve some colourful satire.
The closing party will mark a century of women voting. In 1918, females over the age of 30 with property were allowed to participate in the system. Hollie McNish, a poet, and Helen Pankhurst will do their bit to celebrate feminist progress at the party.
