Those working out the figures behind the plans predict that the move would stimulate major growth in the overall media industry over a 10-year period.
The relocation would further enrich employment in Sheffield, as new jobs may be created, in addition to a least some of the broadcaster’s 700-strong employee base making their way to the area.
The council's Mazher Iqbal said:
"We think Channel 4 and Sheffield are a great fit and we’ve used the bid document to demonstrate that. We’ve put Sheffield on the map and shouted about our city."
Council initiative Creative Sheffield is the main player behind the bid. It said that inward investment is influential when it comes to growth forecast, along with a confidence that more media firms would consider relocating to the area to be near C4 commissioners.
Companies that already operate in Sheffield, such as firms that design effects and graphics or produce television programmes, would win more contracts, which would ultimately lead to expansion. Expansion, likewise, would lead to increased activity, such as further promotion.
