Spitfire trail to fly around Kings Lynn from July

Plans are in motion to boost tourism in West Norfolk over the summer, by commemorating the 75th anniversary of one of the most important battles of World War Two.

The role of the Spitfire was critical during the Battle of Britain, so a Spitfire trail will be set up by a partnership involving the local authority and a group of air cadets.

The idea is that models of the famous aeroplane will be placed in historic parts of Lynn. Each of the 20 fibreglass models is to receive sponsorship from a local enterprise. Banner printing in King’s Lynn may be used to help in the promotion of the event.

Heather Garrod, the president of West Norfolk Chamber Council, has said:

“I think it’s tremendous and it will bring a different sort of people into town. It’s phenomenal.”

Nova Fairbank, who works for the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce, has stated that the local economy should receive a boost from the event. She has stressed the potential importance of increasing visitor numbers to the core of Lynn.

Flight Lieutenant Pauline Petch has pointed out that the start of the Spitfire trail will happen at the same time as a local festival. She has mentioned that the Tourist Information Centre will stock a relevant leaflet.

The aeroplane models will each have a wingspan of a metre. Individual corporate sponsors will determine the colours of every model.
