Science hub near Downham Market may be built

Developers have announced their intention to build a science hub on the border of Downham Market partly because of its upgraded infrastructure.

The proposals involve the potential spending of £300 million on a tech and science centre. This could have an impact on the economy of the region, which includes King’s Lynn. If the hub starts to develop momentum, marketing services in King’s Lynn should receive more business. Leading councillor Nick Daubney told Lynn News:

“I cannot say I know this is going to happen. It’s progressing. It will require a lot of commitment from private sector companies and huge financial investment. We’re told this is being negotiated but this is part of opportunities for young people and for businesses to grow.”

Mr. Daubney made clear that the private sector would play the major role in the effort. However, he said that the policy was in accordance with the ambitions of the borough council. Further, he stressed that the opportunity would not have been possible without government intervention in the past.

In particular, Mr. Daubney pointed out that developers are interested in Downham Market because of its existing connections with Cambridge and the capital. He said that more trains could make the Plans more effective than they would otherwise be.

The overall strategy has been debated at Westminster. However, it has been discussed at a council meeting as well.
