Research centre in Kings Lynn hosts open day

Pat Midgley Research Centre (PMRC), which is based within King’s Lynn, has made the decision to be open to visitors for a day.

PMRC is located inside True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum, which is in King’s Lynn. The plan behind the open day was about allowing visitors to have questions answered by volunteers. The initiative was also about permitting visitors to access photographs and documents. Further open days could be promoted by the use of poster printing from King’s Lynn.

PMRC has been the recipient of a grant from the lottery, but the organisation is also engaged in its own fundraising activities. The lottery grant was for over £56,000, and the anniversary appeal which has been launched has the aspiration of raising £100,000. This sum could secure the future of the place.

Lindsey Bavin, the manager of the museum, told Lynn News:

“The Pat Midgley Research Centre archives at True’s Yard are the direct result of one woman’s passion for heritage and the preservation of knowledge.”

Bavin pointed out that all the research done at PMRC would not have been feasible without the efforts made by Midgley. She also paid tribute to the impact of the funding from the lottery.

The current initiative, entitled Opening Up a House of History, is a redevelopment project which should now run for about a year. It started during the course of 2015.
