Auctioneer Gwen Tester was the primary organiser behind the event, and she gave the profits associated with the auction and the commission to the Lynn Samaritans. It has been confirmed that the value of the cheque was £600.
Tester expressed her gratitude and excitement at the amount generated, saying:
“The result was beyond my wildest expectations.”
Due to the success of the event, Plans are now afoot to hold a similar occasion sometime in the New Year. As a result, full colour printing in King’s Lynn could be utilised to generate additional interest in the cause going forward, and to encourage people to put in a couple of bids and support local charities.
Lynn Samaritans do not restrict their activities to King’s Lynn; they assist a larger population residing in the western part of Norfolk. As they receive no financial backing from the government, the group depends on donations from the public to keep carrying out its work.
Jenny Storf is the chairperson for the Friends of King’s Lynn Samaritans, while Keith King is the branch’s director. Both of them were photographed by Lynn News holding the cheque, along with Tester’s daughter Helen Pickett.
