The new Komori has been bought to replace an older machine, and it will run alongside a similar machine at the Kings Lynn printers.
The investment in this new printer means that CPC Packaging now complies with new EU Legislation regarding the segregation of raw materials and press controls where low-migration printing is concerned.
This is good news for CPC Packaging as low-migration is a hot topic at the moment, with customers wanting to use low-migration cartons where possible due to them having improved standards in food safety.
The general manager for CPC Packaging, Chris Dew, commented:
Any materials or articles that come into contact with food should not alter properties of that food large enough to endanger human health.
There has been uncertainty about the implementation on the European directive in the supply chain. We are all trying to ensure good manufacturing practice is well defined for different combinations of inks, substrates and foodstuffs, as well as factoring such things as functional barriers, food packing conditions and shelf life.
The key is ensuring risk assessment is carried out to assess the right solution.
