King's Lynn looks forward to the Shantymen

The Sheringham Shantymen are due to give a performance in King's Lynn at the beginning of October.

They officially formed in 1990 but their origins date back two years previously when several lifeboatmen and some friends got together at the 150th commemoration of Sheringham's original lifeboat, the Augusta.

Over more than three decades the group has evolved its own distinctive style when it comes to singing sea shanties, notably at Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) stations, while raising charitable funds.

Today the members have various jobs, but nevertheless, retain close links with the institution. In 2007 they bought a ‘D’ Class Lifeboat for the Wicklow RNLI station.

Since 1990 the guys have performed in public over 1,000 times, made a handful of videos and produced seven CDs. This has involved touring the UK, Europe and the USA and appearing at Maritime Festivals such as Bristol and Falmouth.

Their long list of television credits includes Channel 4's The Big Breakfast Show, BBC One's The One Show and ITV’s Ade in Britain. In 2020, they celebrated their 30th anniversary by organising a series of special concerts.

Tickets cost £18.15 inclusive of a booking fee. Poster printing can be a useful way of publicising a forthcoming show or musical event.

The Sheringham Shantymen's concert has a starting time of 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 8 at St. Nicholas Chapel, King’s Lynn.
