A meeting was held recently where MPs in Norfolk asked if Simon Burns, the Transport Minister, would support proposals for a more frequent service from Norfolk to London. Burns gave his word that he would work with Network Rail to obtain its commitment to this change in writing.
A local MP, Elizabeth Truss, commented on the possibility of the new links with London, saying:
“I am extremely pleased that it was such a hugely positive meeting providing real economic benefits for South West Norfolk. Improvements at Ely North Junction will open up capacity on the Fen Line allowing for a half hourly service. I am delighted that the minister has said he will raise this with Network Rail. This commitment will ensure that work should start as soon as possible on the junction. The minister has agreed to specify half hourly services on the Fenline in the Thameslink Franchise which will provide a real boost for jobs, housing and tourism in the region.”
Changes to local rail services would present a need to communicate these changes to local residents – whether this is via updates in the local press or by communicating timetable updates by using services like flyer printing. Kings Lynn residents will now await the decision as to whether or not Network Rail will support the changes requested in the recent meeting.
