The BBC Big Band is bringing 'A Celebration of Gershwin' as part of the King's Lynn Festival to the town towards the end of July.
This band dates from the early days of broadcasting with its origins in the BBC Dance Orchestra formed in 1928. It appears at the UK's leading music festivals, notably BBC Proms, Edinburgh and Cheltenham. Having previously shared a stage with such greats as Ray Charles, Tony Bennet and Michael Buble.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the premiere of George Gershwin's 'Rapsody In Blue'. In his honour, the BBC Big Band is due to make a series of appearances Gerswhin is recognised as one of the 20th century's most significant composers. His work is a key component of the 'Great American Songbook'.
The evening' features a carefully chosen selection of his highly regarded music These include 'Fascinating Rhythm', 'Our Love is Here' and 'Porgy and Bess'. There will also be a swinging arrangement of 'Rhapsody in Blue'. The vocals are provided by Jenny Howe and the conductor is Barry Forgie.
