WHL season hits the ice in Regina hub

After a year apart, teams in the Western Hockey League have reunited to play a condensed 24-game season in a set of hub cities, including Regina.

Regina will host the major junior league’s Eastern Division, which consists of teams from Saskatchewan and Manitoba. This will include the hometown Regina Pats, as well as the Moose Jaw Warriors, Brandon Wheat Kings, Prince Albert Raiders, Winnipeg Ice and Saskatoon Blades. The games are being held behind closed doors, but the league has launched a new streaming service called WHL Live to ensure fans can watch their team. The WHL is also operating hubs for their Central, B.C. and U.S. Divisions, with all games taking place between divisional rivals.

The Eastern Hub kicked off on March 12, with Moose Jaw winning 4-3 over Brandon, and Prince Albert defeating Regina 6-3. Pats fans did have something to cheer about with the performance of first overall draft pick Connor Bedard, who scored two goals and generated a number of chances.

Junior hockey teams, whose jerseys and other Promotional Products can be seen across Canada, offer a chance for young players to show their stuff and for smaller cities to see competitive hockey, making their return much anticipated.

The Regina hub of the Western Hockey League is taking place at the Brandt Centre and will run until April 28.
