Canadian comedy and television icon Red Green will make a stop in Regina this October as part of his cheekily-titled “This Could Be It” tour. The show looks to mix new material with bits from Green’s TV show.
Born Steve Smith, Green played the title role on The Red Green Show for 15 years across various Canadian networks, beginning as local programming in Hamilton, Ontario. The show was a mixture of stand-up, sketch comedy and sitcom, and starred a duct Tape-obsessed handyman. It was a parody of home improvement programming that eventually outlived and overshadowed the shows it was parodying, and for many was a playful but loving embrace of Canada’s outdoor culture.
The Regina tour promises updated versions of some segments from the show, such as a meeting of the Possum Lake Lodge and new handyman projects, as well as messages from Red’s dorky nephew Harold and a couple other cast members. The show’s title playfully teases that, at the age of 73, this might be Smith’s last tour – although nothing has been officially announced. Television stars sometimes find a second life on live comedy tours like this, often advertised through poster printing and flyer printing.
Red Green’s This Could Be It tour stops in Regina at the Conexus Arts Centre on October 7. Until then, fans of the show can follow Red’s signature advice to “keep your stick on the ice.”
