Highland gathering to return to Regina

Local lovers of Celtic culture will gather in Regina this May as the Saskatchewan Highland Games and Celtic Festival returns to the province’s capital.

The cultural festival is full of activities related to traditional Scottish culture. Traditional piping and drumming, including the notorious bagpipe, will provide a soundtrack to the day, with a competition between musicians taking place. The Queen City Open Championship, a contest to crown the best traditional Highland dancer, will also take place, as well as an outdoor stage display. The most physical competition will be the Scottish Open/Amateur Athletics competition, a combination of strongman events and track and field.

In addition to the competitions, the festival will have a number of attractions for visitors. These include the Celtic Market, which offers Scottish-themed items from vendors such as The Kilt Lady Saskatoon and A Hint o’ Heather, and food vendors including The Frying Deutschmann.

Events such as these offer a major opportunity for specialty vendors to make connections through Business Cards and special deals. There will also be a children’s area with a bouncy castle and storytelling activities, plus a festival tent offering local beer selected by Pile O’ Bones Brewing Co.

The Saskatchewan Highland Games and Celtic Festival will take place at Victoria Park on May 21, with the dancing competition taking place in the Hotel Saskatchewan Regency Ballroom.
