Football festivities to hit Regina

Regina will once again play host to the biggest weekend in Canadian football this November, as the Grey Cup game will visit the Queen City with all the attendant festivities.

The primary trophy of the Canadian Football League, the Grey Cup is one of the oldest and most prestigious trophies in North American sports, and the championship game is typically the most-watched annual Canadian sporting event. This year’s edition will be the 109th, and just the 4th held in Regina, with the most recent coming in 2013. The game will feature the finalists of a six-team playoff, with a major musical performance at half-time. The theme of the 2022 Grey Cup is “Back to the Heartland”, reflecting Canadian football’s popularity in Regina and the Prairies more generally.

There will also be a week-long Grey Cup Festival leading up to the game. The NextGen Energy Street Festival will feature live music and interactive events, including a Tube Slide and Interactive Light Displays, and culminate in an outdoor tailgate party immediately before the game. Mosaic Village will stretch across a number of indoor spaces and include youth football events, a Family Fair, team party rooms, an e-sports tournament and more. Shoulder events such as this, typically advertised through methods such as brochure printing and digital media, are increasingly a part of major sporting clashes.

The 109th Grey Cup will take place at Mosaic Stadium on November 20, with the Grey Cup Festival events beginning on November 15.
