Vote For Your Favourite Young Artist

The National Gallery’s art competition, So You Want to Be an Artist, is now underway and you are invited to vote for your favourite painting, sketch or photograph. All submissions are from Canadian artists aged 16 to 19, and represent a wide array of styles and expressions.

Josh Tiessen, from Stoney Creek, is a young artist hoping to win the top prize – a gift certificate for art supplies and a trip to the National Gallery for a total value of $3,500. But perhaps an even greater distinction is to become one of the 12 finalists, since all will have their artwork displayed in the National Gallery of Canada. Many artists do not get the chance to have their artwork displayed at Canada’s most prestigious art gallery until much later on in their career.

The competition is running from now until April 30th. You can visit the website of So You Want to Be an Artist and view more than 50 submissions. If you click on any of the images of the artwork, a detailed description of the artist and the art will be displayed. The artist who receives the most “likes” will win the top prize.

This type of event can benefit greatly from promotional material such as poster printing to get the word out. Alternatively, flyer printing or Brochures could be left at public places such as libraries or community centres.

Just visit the website today and vote for your favourite young artist, and support Canada’s developing art community.
