Target decides on new store in Stoney Creek

The American company Target announced in early 2011 that they had acquired several store leases from Zellers and would be converting them into Target stores beginning in March 2013; the company hopes to convert between 125 and 135 Zellers stores by 2017. With that goal in mind, Target has recently acquired the leases of four more Zellers stores in the Hamilton area, including the one at Queenston Place in Stoney Creek. It will be difficult for many to see a store chain that has been a Canadian institution for several decades taken over by an American company.

In order to ease the pain of the change, Target would be wise to create a promotional campaign that will appeal to Zeller’s customers. A flyer printing campaign could help things get off on the right foot; special opening day offers distributed through direct mail will get people interested enough to come and check it out for themselves. Having plenty of marketing muscle behind it, Target will no doubt use other means to promote its new store, including newspaper ads and a large banner attached to the store front with details of opening day specials.

Target is spending between $10 and $11 million on converting each store and they are already hiring people to work in teach location. They also recently announced that Sobeys supermarkets will be supplying the new locations with fresh and frozen food. The conversion should not be difficult for the consumer; as long as they feel they are not losing anything in the deal.
