Stoney Creek names its Citizen of the Year

The Stoney Creek Chamber of Commerce held its annual Citizen of the Year Awards on May 10th and honored seven outstanding citizens who have dedicated their time and energy toward excellence in community service, leadership, and exceptional business practice.

Held at the Galileo’s Garden in Stoney Creek, the top honor went to Linda Shuker, president of the Winona Peach Festival, for tirelessly managing the event for the last six years and for many years serving on the board of management prior to that. The Winona Peach Festival is the largest fundraising event in Stoney Creek, attracting more than 150,000 visitors over a weekend in late August each year. The festival features live musical performances, arts and crafts, a children’s stage, a vintage car show, and an amusement park, as well as showcasing local vendors. Thanks to the leadership by Linda Shuker, the festival is one of the most beloved in the city.

Others honored at the ceremony included Amanda Cicero as Junior Citizen of the Year, the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home as the Outstanding Small Business of 2011, and the law firm of McHugh Mowat Whitmore Ionico and MacPherson as the Outstanding Large Business. The Humanitarian Award was presented to Colin Heyens.

This type of event could be accompanied by attractive brochures, printed by brochure printers, that give a photo of the award-recipient, a brief biography, and a list of accomplishments. The brochure could be a keepsake for all who attend the ceremony, as well as a promotional tool for the Stoney Creek Chamber of Commerce.
