Stoney Creek laces up for annual Terry Fox
This year was the 35th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. Residents of Stoney Creek have been official participants since 1993.
At this year’s event, organizers took a moment to reflect on what Terry Fox accomplished when he set out on his run 35 years ago, stating that he was an inspiration to people all over the world and a testament to dedication and determination.
In its first occurrence 22 years ago, the run in Stoney Creek attracted about 140 participants. Today, around 300 people participate in the annual event to raise funds for cancer research. An event like this is supported in part by printing companies, because there are several materials that need printing, such as registration information ad route maps. As well, services like poster printing and banner printing are important, because they help keep the day running smoothly by providing information to the many participants and spectators.
This year’s run took place on Sunday, September 20 at Hutch’s on the Beach. Participants chose between a 5 km and 10 km route, as well as their choice of activity, which could be any one of running, walking, cycling or inline skating.
To date, Stoney Creek has raised more than $231,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation. This year’s event saw 338 participants and more than $16,000 raised.
