Stoney Creek class to cover fruit tree pruning

Stoney Creek home gardeners who are “green” with envy when they see their neighbours have success with growing fruit at home will soon be able to learn some of the tricks of the trade when it comes to pruning to increase harvest yield.

Blue Dot Acres and Design Jam Permaculture have teamed up to offer a workshop that will explore fruit tree pruning practices, and no skills are required to attend. The workshop is being offered at a heavily discounted rate of $7.00 to promote sales of plants through TransitionTreemobile.org, an organization run by volunteers that aims to promote food sustainability in the local area.

The outdoor class will include hands-on learning, and everyone is reminded to bring along any tree planting questions they have. Along with pruning, the facilitator will share tips for site selection, soil amendments and how some cultivars require cross pollination with another variety. To help make the function more accessible to families, onsite child care will be available for an additional fee, but arrangements for this must be made ahead of time.

Pruning and other horticultural practices may sound complicated, but a class or workshop can show attendees that they do not have to be. A flyer printing company can provide Copies of handouts for distribution during an event like this, as well as other learning materials.

Blue Dot Acres Farm will be offering its Fruit Tree and Shrub Pruning Workshop for Beginners on March 29th. In the event of poor weather, it will be postponed to April 6th.
