What's Happening in Stoney Creek, ON…

Local curling champion wins mens title

One Stoney Creek curling athlete, 26-year-old Mark Kean, recently won the Recharge with Milk Tankard men’s provincial curling championship, in Dorchester, according to sources.

Kean defeated John Epping with a 7-6 win and now currently holds the men’s curling title. He said of his victory:

“I don’t think it’s really sunk in yet, it’s pretty surreal. I think I’m going to wake up tomorrow morning and wonder if it’s real.”

This was Kean’s third Tankard trip but his first with the team that he organized just over a year ago. Kean and his teammates – Scott Howard, Mathew Camm, and David Mathers – will be moving forward to represent Ontario in Calgary at the week-long Tim Horton’s Brier event, which starts February 28th.

Kean and Epping are no strangers to each other, according to sources, as they competed together in past Tankard championships. Further, two years ago both Mathers and Howard, who are now on Kean’s team, used to play on Epping’s team.

Columnist Brian Belfry referred to the final match as a “real nail-biter” and said:

“I was very nervous, because I wasn’t sure what was going to happen.”

A stationery printing company can come in handy with championships like curling events, as professionals can offer certificates to be presented to the winners, and brochure printing for informational materials to be handed out to fans.
