Hamilton Economic Summit looks for innovative ideas

The 4th annual Hamilton Economic Summit was held on Thursday, May 12, 2011. The annual summit is a meeting of minds between community, business and political leaders in the Hamilton area. There is a good chance that products created by business card printing firms in nearby Stoney Creek were handed out during the summit.

The theme of this year’s Hamilton Economic Summit was People and Profits: Energizing our Lower City. It was co-chaired by Louise Dompierre and Gary Graham and moderated by Nick Bontis of the DeGroote School of Business. Two of the speakers at the summit were Glen Murray, Minister of Research and Innovation for Ontario, who gave a breakfast address entitled “It’s Hamilton’s Time,” and Christopher B. Leinberger of the Brookings Institution gave the keynote address called “Here Comes the Neighbourhood: a Walkable Hamilton.” Another highlight of the summit was the HES Economic Progress Report which talked about what came of ideas and proposals discussed at last year’s Hamilton Economic Summit.

Organizers of the summit were hoping that the summit would help those taking part understand how valuable the area is, that it would help them come up with new ideas on how to develop the downtown core of the city, and to agree on specific actions such as job creation in Hamilton. One positive announcement made at the summit was that several new businesses will be opening in downtown Hamilton this year.

Business card printing companies in Stoney Creek look forward to possibly doing business with these new companies.
