Every year since 2008, Agfa Graphics has nominated new American and Canadian companies to receive its GreenWorks Environmental Reward, a reward given to Print companies striving to reduce their economic footprint while still maintaining high Print standards. One of the locally added GreenWorks eco-friendly companies is Pinnacle Litho, located in Stoney Creek, ON. In addition to the Stoney Creek, ON-based company, 25 other companies in the United States in Canada were added to Agfa’s eco-friendly list in 2010.
In order to be nominated as an eco-friendly provider, Print companies must use Agfa Graphics TS chemistry-free plates, Amigo TS low-chemistry CtP plates or Energy Elite no-bake plates. Awards are also based not only the Print shop's use of Agfa Graphic's products, but also on the company's practices related to environmental responsibility, such as the use of different types of environmentally-friendly products and also recycling, as well as waste reduction and alternative energy use. The companies nominated for the GreenWorks designation are all previous customers of Agfa Graphics.
A variety of other independent awards exist to recognize and acknowledge environmentally friendly Print shops. Another well known 'green printing' award is the international Heidelberg ECO Printing Award competition. All companies who operate at least one sheetfed offset press are eligible to enrol and be reviewed by an independent panel of Print media judges, represented by both the Print industry and environmental organizations.
The award should prompt other printing companies in Stoney Creek to work towards being nominated for the 2011 Greenworks Environmental Reward.
