Environmental service project scheduled for Stoney Creek

The Hamilton Conservation Authority will be leading a work party at a Stoney Creek green space, and those who participate in the project will be helping to keep incisive species under control.

The organization strives to preserve the area's wild spaces, and it will be heading to Felker’s Falls for a morning of environmental stewardship. As all of the materials needed for the project will be provided, all the volunteers will need to bring a reusable water bottle, gloves and a willing heart.

The participants will remove invasive species such as buckthorn, English ivy and yellow dead nettle. These crowd out native plants and provide poor food and shelter for birds and other wildlife. Removing these will create habitat with better ecological value, and improve biodiversity. While they work, the attendees will be learning about non-native plants and the dangers they can pose. Parking for the venue is available at 43 Ackland Street, and it can also be reached by public transit.

A hands-on service project can be both fun and rewarding for those who choose to take part. Small promotional products can be prepared by a printer to hand out to volunteers to show them their efforts have been appreciated.

Green Venture and the Hamilton Conservation Authority will be offering the public an opportunity to lend Mother Nature a helping hand on July 26th. The venue is located on Ackland Street.
