Pickering library to celebrate program anniversary

The Pickering Public Library will be hosting a birthday celebration to celebrate the first year anniversary of its Ovee outreach program this October.

Ovee, short for Outreach Vehicle and pronounced “oh-vee”, is a van that has appeared at public events, parks and other community gathering spots across Pickering over its year of existence. Regular stops include West Shore Community Centre, Rick Johnson Memorial Park and Rouge Valley Park. The vehicle contains books, movies and other items available for borrowing from the library, and is often used for delivering items on hold.

The anniversary event, called Ovee’s Birthday Party, is a rare off-site Sunday event for the library. Attendees can visit Ovee and take part in giveaways and other educational activities. There will also be tables with representatives of local community organizations and services. Exhibitors at community events like this often use methods like brochure printing and visual displays to help communicate their services.

The celebration is open to readers and library patrons of all ages, with books and other materials for children, teens and adults. The program’s mission statements include priority sentiments such as creating opportunities, strengthening a sense of community, improving accessibility and providing a space that offers togetherness.

The Ovee’s Birthday Party event will take place at Esplanade Park behind the Central Library in Pickering on October 5.
