Amateur astronomers and those who just love to gaze at the night sky are invited to take part in an event that will allow them to get a special look at the stars.
The University of Alberta’s observatory will be open for a tour that includes a presentation by Dr. Sharon Morsink, who is in its Department of Physics. Guests will be able to view the evening sky through the facility’s telescopes, with special attention being paid to the moon, Mars, and Saturb. The event will take place rain, snow or shine, and even if the stars cannot be seen, there will still be demonstrations and displays to enjoy. Signs for use during open house style events such as this can be produced by a printer.
Those who are interested in taking part are reminded to wear warm clothes, as the domes for the telescopes are not heated. They are also advised to wear flat-bottomed shoes. Anyone with mobility issues is asked to advise the organizers ahead of time so accommodations can be made for them.
The event will take place at the university in its Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science (CCIS) Building Room 5-240, on the evening of October 7. There is no cost to attend, but spaces are limited.
