Pilot program to help those with low income

Every day, Edmonton’s public transit system helps many people get where they need to go. While it is cheaper than driving, for some, it is still an expense that they may find difficult to afford. A new pilot project is hoping to change that.

The program will be designed to help those with a low income have better access to the public transit system by supplying low cost monthly transit passes. It is expected that this could improve the lives of thousands of people throughout the city.

According to the Edmonton Transit Advisory Board, the proposed pass will follow the low income cut off level guidelines, which are already used to help determine whether or not an individual needs assistance in paying for the things they need, such as the leisure passes that allow access to the recreational facilities throughout the city.

The proposal has found a lot of support, and it is hoped that the cost will be covered through input from all three levels of Government.

One of the most important aspects of the program will be that the application process is simple and streamlined, making it as easy as possible for the applicant.

Print companies can help by creating and producing application Forms that meet the needs of the transit authority.

If things go as planned, the three-year pilot program will start next January.
