The 2011 Ernest C. Manning Awards will be held on October 14 at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton. This yearly awards banquet celebrates “Canadian’s who have demonstrated recent innovative talent in developing and successfully marketing a new concept, process or procedure.” Four awards will be given out: the Encana Principal Award which comes with a prize of $100,000, the David E. Mitchell Award of Distinction ($25,000) and two Innovation awards worth $10,000 each. There will also be a poster presentation which features young researchers.
Innovation is very important in business; while lots of business people may not be honored with prestigious awards as the Manning Award, those who run the most successful and prosperous businesses are constantly coming up with new ways of doing things. Getting innovative ideas across to potential customers can sometimes be a tricky thing. However, working with a local poster or flyer printing company can help to create an effective campaign that will put those new ideas front and centre.
In tandem with the Manning Awards, Edmonton will also be host to the Celebration of Innovation Symposium on October 15. This symposium, held at the University of Alberta, Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science will be presented by the Manning Foundation and is a free lecture service. The symposium will be hosted by Jay Ingram. The lectures presented will share the stories of those who are considered successful trailblazers. The keynote address will be delivered by University president Indira Samarasekera. The symposium will also feature displays from various groups.
