The workshop will explain what lean manufacturing is using the example of the Toyota Motor Company. Attendees will learn how to apply this to the printing and graphics communications industry. They will also learn the tools that help identify waste. Beverages and food will be provided.
Lean manufacturing comes to us from Japan and some of the principles were first used in North America by Henry Ford on the assembly line, it is defined broadly as
"preserving value with less work."
Basically, this means that businesses must make sure that they are not wasting time or resources, that they are being as efficient as they can be. There are set established ways of studying waste in lean manufacturing that are called kata. Currently there are 7 main areas in which to identify waste; transportation, inventory, motion (i.e. how employees move during jobs), waiting, over production, over processing, defects (identifying and preventing) and not meeting customer demands.
When a company can identify these problems and totally dedicate themselves to lean manufacturing, they almost guarantee that their business will be successful and that it will be able to sustain that success.Get a Free Quote for Print
