Edmonton workshop to show weeds a little love

Many gardeners know the struggle of trying to keep weeds at bay, but a free Edmonton workshop will offer a different perspective on these plants, and can help those who participate develop an appreciation for them.

Compost ‘S cool believes that there are many benefits to growing plants that are often considered to be weeds, and if cared for, they can even become valuable ornamentals in the garden. The learners will find out more about this, as well as the other benefits that go with embracing a garden’s wild side.

The workshop will be built around hands-on learning, and the attendees have been asked to bring pruners and a pair of gloves. They will find out why having weeds in a garden can attract birds and other wildlife who depend on these plants for food and shelter, and also how these robust plants can be tilled back into the soil so that they can break down and improve it for the next growing season.

The organizers of this workshop are offering it three times over the summer months, and dates have been planned for June, July and August. Knowing how to identify the common weeds in an area can help those who register for an event like this to make the most of what they have learned, and field guides that can help with this can be prepared by an area printing services provider.

Compost ‘S cool, which can be found on the River Loop Trail, will offer this workshop on June 22 (this Saturday), July 13 and August 18.
